The L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle is a British version of the FN FAL battle rifle produced by the Belgian armaments manufacturer FN Herstal. The L1A1 is a slightly modified design that uses British imperial units. Notable differences include the magazines and the butt-stock which attach differently. The L1A1 served as the UK’s first-line battle rifle for nearly 30 years before being replaced by the 5.56mm L85A1 in the 1980s.
