The RPK is a Russian made 7.62x39mm light machine gun designed by Mikhail Kalashnikov in the 1960’s. It eventually replaced the 7.62x39mm RPD light machine gun and is still used today in countries of the former Soviet Union and parts of African and Asian nations.
The RPK and AK-47 function identically, both using 7.62x39mm ammunition. While the design of the RPK is very similar to the Kalashnikov series of rifles, the RPK includes modifications that increase effective range, accuracy, strengthen the receiver, and enhance its sustained fire capability.
